List of cell comments
A list of cell comments in the workbook is produceed by the AutoDocumentation List cell comments command. The list is on sheet X~Comments. If it exists, the list of sheets on sheet X~Sheets will be updated when this command is run.
All cell comments on worksheets are listed. There are no cell comments on chart sheets. You may have other sheets in your workbooks, such as macro sheets, if the workbooks were developed with older versions of Excel. No cell comments on these other sheets are listed.
This list is useful because one of the disadvantages of cell comments as a documentation mechanism is that they are only visible when the cell to which they apply is visible. This means that while they are useful as the workbook is being used, they cannot normally be used to summarise information. This sheet overcomes that disadvantage.
The contents of the list are as follows:
- Sheet
- The name of the sheet on which the comment appears.
- Cell address
- The address of the cell to which the comment is attached. The entry in this column may be a hyperlink; clicking on it will take you to the cell in question. There are no hyperlinks to cells on hidden sheets.
- Cell name
- The Name that refers to the range consisting of the cell to which the comment is attached, if such a Name exists.
- Cell value
- The value of the cell to which the comment is attached.
- Comment author
- The name of the user who originally added the comment to the cell.
- Comment text
- The text of the comment.
Updating the list
The list of comments can be updated at any time by using the command XLSior > AutoDocument > List cell Comments.
Sorting the list
The order in which the comments appear in the list is determined by your user and workbook preferences.
